BBB M e m b e r
My name is Joel Klamer. I am a music educator and am currently teaching in Grand Rapids, MI. I am a saxophonist and I enjoy playing both jazz and classical music. In addition to teaching, I perform with the Beltline Big Band and with the Kentwood Community Band. I also am active in my church, participating in worship and special music. I received my Bachelor of Music (Education) degree from Grove City College in Pennsylvania. I received my Master of Music (Jazz Studies-Composition) from Youngstown State University in Ohio where I studied jazz with Dr. David Morgan and Dr. Kent Engelhardt. I studied saxophone with Dr. James Umble and Mr. Louis Collela. I studied conducting with Dr. Stephen Gage. My master's thesis is on the piece "Thad," written by Jim McNeely. During my research, I conducted a personal interview with McNeely and had the opportunity to perform with him.
I most enjoy writing for the big band. I have also written some small group jazz pieces and one piece for wind ensemble.
If you would prefer to purchase one of my pieces directly from me rather than on the Sibelius website, please email me for a price (including printing and shipping costs). Also, please email me if you are interested in performing my music. I hope you enjoy it.
